Rich who dont contribute towards charity are like rotten potatoes: J&K governor
JAMMU: Without taking anyones name J&K governorSatya Pal Malikon Wednesday said millionaires and the countrys rich who are not engaged in charitable work or philanthropy are, for him, rotten potatoes.
A section of the rich in the country do not contribute to charity, so they are like rotten potatoes for me, he said at an event to markFlag Daycelebrations, which was on December 7, by the Rajya Sainik Board.
Governor Malik said, Reports say that recently one of the richest men in the country spent Rs 700 crore on a lavish wedding and when asked by a journalist if he contributes to charity he reportedly replied in the negative to say he added to the countrys economy.
Malik said that the amount of Rs 700 crore that reports said was spent on the wedding could have given life to 700 new schools and helped more than 7,000 war widows to educate their children and grow in J&K.
Even in Kashmir many politicians and bureaucrats are millionaires but sorry to say, they have little sensitivity for society, said the governor.
He then went on to eulogise martyred jawans saying places where jawans laid down their lives inbattleare pious and asked people to visit such places as pilgrimages, more than any other.
